Called to...the mundane

common; ordinary; banal; unimaginative

This would be the definition of "mundane" according to dictionary.com. Now, the question before us is a simple one - but has two parts:
  1. Is Jesus Lord over our mundane? Because, quite honestly, if He does not rule in our mundane we certainly will have a difficult time relinquishing control in ALL OTHER AREAS.
  2. Dream with me...God calls us to a mundane task for 40 years - are we in a spot where this makes sense and can still walk in the worship of God despite the dreadfully common task He daily lays before us?
Reading through Numbers 4:47-49 the mundane carries unbelievable weight. "...all the men between 30 and 50 years of age eligible for service in the Tabernacle and for its transportation numbered 8,580...each man was assigned his task and told what to carry."

These men literally just carried things from the Tabernacle throughout the desert for years. Pretty mundane. However, if they did not carry out their task God was not properly worshiped. So, I ask again, is Jesus LORD over our mundane and can we walk in worship despite the simple unrecognizable task God lays before us?

  1. First of all Doug, I'm proud of how God is using you at NCF! I love to see the man you have become and to see your sold out love for Christ! This entry is definately an eye opener for me. "Mundane" seems to be most days for most people. The routine of work for me can just kinda go on and on. I started to think of different people of the Bible. Most of the info written about them were "highlights" so to speak of their lives. We don't hear a ton of what Sarah cooked Abraham for supper or what Noah did before and after the ark experience. (besides God being very pleased w/him and his life.) What we do get to see is their moments of "atta boys" and the "boy, that was dumb!" times. The rest of their time, to some extent, most likely involved the routine of life, the common, the ordinary. THOSE ARE THE TIMES THAT PREPARE US FOR THE BIGGER MOMENTS! Day to day. Living for Christ. Sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing, but always with a heart that truly longs to be a pleasure to Christ! Without a doubt, I need to be steady during the "mundane" times. Thanks for the wake up Doug! Love ya buddy, ~Jas
