"Such a Pretty Face"

Where is it written into law that I must cut myself down? I have often wondered this...primarily because I, like some of you, must always have something to critique or "improve upon."
Sure it's true, God has designed us to be dependent upon Him so as to understand His greatness; but why do I feel the need to do the self-degrading thing when it comes to a weakness I have? Just two days ago I sat across the table from my daughter eating her breakfast. She brushed her hair back and looked at me and said, "dad, Jesus and God made me...and they gave me such a pretty face." Wow, I thought, did "they" see fit to insert any humility?
The more I considered it, the more I thought of II Cor. 3:18 "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being
transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes
from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
Tell me, when you read this, what are your thoughts. Do you feel like you reflect the Glory of God? If so, why...if not why? Lets chat about it

  1. yeah, I do the same thing sometimes. did God always intend for me to struggle with the same things? I feel like I do not reflect anything of God sometimes...

  2. as I read your comment the Apostle Paul comes to mind...he was one who prayed (very intently) for the Lord to remove a struggle and He chose not to. If by struggle you mean falling to that temptation...no God does not intend you to fall to temptation (the bible says that no one is tempted beyond what he can bear). I believe that the Lord did not remove Paul's "thorn" because it kept him in right relation to God.

Now, how does that news hit you...just curious?

  3. what would you say to someone who's apperance was "marred" by life choices like drugs or alcohol? they were made beautiful, but the chose to sin . . .what does that make them?

  4. to anonymous I would say this: no one's life choices disqualify them for the gift of the gospel...heck - one need look no further than me. in I Sam. 16:7 it says that "...man looks at the outward appearance but the LORD looks at the heart..." and in II Cor. 5:17 it says that God makes us a new creation in Him - further still in Ezekiel 36:26 we are told God will give us a new heart. all that to say this - marred or not matters not to God he is looking on their heart and He will give them a NEW beautiful heart.
